Lynyrd Skynyrd's MD Show: A Rock and Roll Masterclass!


The Gueits Production had the opportunity to attend Lynyrd Skynyrd's show at the Merriweather Post Pavilion on September 2nd. Truly an unforgettable celebration of their 50-year career, and it marked a poignant moment in their history as they embarked on their first full tour since the loss of original guitarist Gary Rossington in March. The evening was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the enduring talent and resilience of this iconic southern rock band.


From the moment the curtain rose, it was evident that Lynyrd Skynyrd was here to prove that they remain a force to be reckoned with in the world of rock and roll. Johnny Van Zant, the band's charismatic frontman, took the stage with an energy and vocal prowess that left the audience in awe. His performance was a testament to why he is considered one of the greatest vocalists in rock history. His powerful and soulful rendition of their classic hits sent chills down the spines of everyone in attendance.


Michael Cartellone, behind the drum kit, was an absolute powerhouse. His rhythmic precision and thunderous beats drove the band's performance to new heights, creating a pulse that reverberated through the entire venue. It was evident that the rhythm section was rock-solid and unwavering.

Rickey Medlocke, one of the band's guitarists, displayed his remarkable skills, delivering searing guitar solos and adding depth to Lynyrd Skynyrd's signature sound. His presence on stage was electrifying, and he seamlessly filled the void left by the late Gary Rossington.


The highlight of the evening came with an energetic rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama," which had the entire audience on their feet, singing along with every word. The band's energy and enthusiasm were contagious, creating a sense of camaraderie and nostalgia among the fans.


As the show drew to a close, Lynyrd Skynyrd delivered a heartwarming and sentimental performance of "Free Bird."
